Oprtalj is a picturesque town in central Istria, located on a three hundred meter high hill, at 378 m above sea level, and has been mentioned since the early 12th century as the urban residence of the then feudal rulers and craftsmen. In front of the entrance to the old part of the city there is a loggia with a lapidary decorated with a Venetian lion, and next to it, on the protruding ramparts, there is a plateau from which you can see the whole surrounding area. Within the place is the parish church of St. George from the beginning of the 16th century, and a separate bell tower, in the shape of a tower, was completed two centuries later. At the exit from Oprtalj there is a small church of St. Marija, known for its beautiful Istrian frescoes. Arriving in Oprtalj, you must have noticed the beautiful landscape you passed, old stone houses, forests, plateaus, as well as more and more tourist signs for cyclists and food and wine lovers. This area is extremely famous for truffles, as well as good olive oil and wines. Livade, a place within the municipality of Oprtalj, is also called the 'World Truffle Center', as white and black truffles thrive here, especially along the river Mirna and Motovun forest, while at the source of the healing waters of St. Stjepana, at the foot of an 85 meter high rock, built nearby Istarske Toplice, known for the treatment of rheumatic, respiratory and dermatological diseases. Tuberfest - fair of white truffles, olive oil, cheeses and other Istrian products in Livade. There is also the Museum of Parenzana, the famous railway that connected Trieste, Poreč and Kanfanar from 1902 to 1935, and because of which the Meadows developed so much. Within the museum you can see numerous objects, photographs, documents and milestones related to this train and railway. There is also the Oprtalj Chestnut Festival, and recently an antiques fair is being held in Oprtalj.
